About us:

We are excited to start serving our Roanoke community! Eyecare Associates of Roanoke is our first practice extension, with our initial location being Eyecare Associates of Bluffton. Set to open in October of 2021, Dr. Schamerloh and Dr. Roth have called Roanoke home for several years and are looking forward to serving their patients that live north of Bluffton. We are looking to hire now in order to begin the training process in Bluffton so that Roanoke is ready to roll on opening day!

Position Title: Clinical Assistant

Position Description:

The Assistant works to make the doctor more efficient in his exam by shadowing the doctor and providing real-time charting as well as performing a variety of tasks, including recording patients’ histories and chief complaints, transcribing physical exams, recording diagnostic test results, and preparing plans for follow-up care. Additionally, the Assistant may help in the physical exam by assisting in diagnostic tests, minor procedures, working with contact lenses, and facilitating the patient’s flow through the practice.

Specific Duties:

Record details of chief complaint, history of present illness, review of systems, past medical history, social history, family medical history, medications, and allergies in the Electronic Health Records · Perform visual acuity testing, binocular vision screenings, pupil and visual field testing, among other exam elements · Record details of physical exam · Assist in patient “hand-offs” to optical · Perform clinical testing and ocular imaging · Perform contact lens training, fitting, and other procedures · Perform lensometry · Other duties and limitations as delineated by specific doctor

Educational Experience: · High school diploma · 1-2 years of college a plus but not necessary. Experience in health care and/or customer service a plus

Knowledge, skills, abilities:

Working knowledge of medical terminology · Recognition of physical exam process and ability to record exam details · Legible handwriting and ability to accurately record information · Computer proficiency and ability to quickly learn new applications · Communication skills and the ability to coordinate and cooperate with multiple members of the health care team · Organizational skills with focus on tracking patient care and improving patient flow · Professional demeanor and recognition of privacy considerations for patients and families · Be willing to learn and perform at secondary positions in order to create a more flexible work environment that will not interrupt our delivery of patient care · Learn to perform certain portions of the exam, both with and without the presence of doctor.

Job Type: Full-time Pay: $12.00 – $16.00 per hour

COVID-19 considerations:

We follow the CDC recommendations for medical facilities, full-time mask wear is required. Workspaces and exam rooms have HEPA air-filtration for added protection in addition to many other procedures in place to protect our staff and patients.
