Eyewear Consultant

Position Description:

The Optician works to create exceptional value in the lives of our patients by delivering personalized customer service and assisting the patient in selecting eyewear best suited to their wants and medical needs. We strive to create enthusiastically satisfied patients through our dedication to offering a wide variety of frames, the highest-quality lenses, and boasting an extensive knowledge in fitting eyewear and lens technology. Opticians gather information about the patient such as the level of activity, facial features, or occupation, and make recommendations about which type of frames or lenses will be best for a particular patient. It is their duty to inform the patient regarding the benefits that certain lenses provide and assist the optometrist in helping them attain their best vision.

Specific Duties:

Assist customers in selecting frames and lenses that are best suited for their fashion, lifestyle, and prescription · Learn and keep up-to-date on frame lines and latest lens technology · Be able to present benefits of various lens options in a way that is not judgmental of the patient’s financial standing · Place and verify orders for frames, lenses, and contact lenses · Verify glasses through use of a lensometer; assuring that the prescription and various other measures are correctly-made · Properly fit frames to patient’s faces and instruct patients on proper lens use and care · Provide eyewear adjustment and repair · Mark lenses for edging · Assist in patient transitions throughout practice · Help teach patients contact lens insertion and removal · Cross training in pretesting and/or clinical assistant likely required · Lens edging training may be required · Assist in various business duties, including: frame and lens inventory, supply and equipment maintenance, and patient insurance/claim forms submission and record keeping

Educational Experience:

High school diploma · 1-2 years of college a plus but not necessary. Experience in health care and/or customer service a plus

Knowledge, skills, abilities:

Strong basic math skills · Awareness of basic current fashion trends and a sense of patient’s fashion preferences · Good communication and listening skills; able to present options and provide recommendations · Pleasant demeanor with a positive attitude · Computer skills · Grow through in-house training and education

Work environment:

Type:

Full-time Pay: $12.00 – $16.00 per hour

COVID-19 considerations:

We follow the CDC recommendations for medical facilities, including full-time mask wear. Workspaces and exam rooms have HEPA air-filtration for added protection in addition to many other procedures in place to protect our staff and patients.
